Writing & Storytelling
Summer
Creativity • Clubs • Mentorship
I enjoyed the ways you were able to connect us with ourselves and the whole group through writing and creativity
A Space
To be and to belong
The Bureau of Fearless Ideas is so excited to invite you to apply for one or more of the following summer writing & storytelling adventures. This summer, we’ll head to the beach to explore the intertidal zone, we’ll go to the University of Washington to uncover the secret life of plants, we’ll work alongside local poets and comics artists, and so much more.
Our Greenwood Programs have ended for the summer, and our Yesler Terrace programs are winding down.
Soon, we’ll be gearing up for Fall Programs, with an aim to start in late September or early October. More information coming soon. Check out our After School Writing page for updates and don’t forget to follow Fearless Ideas on Instagram, too!
Summer 2023 Recap
In Greenwood, Bryan Wilson led us on expeditions to explore the World of Plants with a private tour of the University of Washington Greenhouse—where we fed carnivorous plants—and a quest to discover the World of Sea Creatures at Carkeek Park during low tide, spying on sea cucumbers and crabs, with students writing and reflecting on the different worlds that exist around us and all the flora and fauna that inhabit all these tiny worlds. The Fearless team then led us through a joke writing workshop with Wally Feresten and Dina Gusovsky from the Late Night Show with Seth Meyers and Saturday Night Live. We ended summer with a Poetry & Comics workshop with Seattle Civic Poet Shin Yu Pai and award-winning graphic novelist David Lasky.
In Yesler Terrace, Roberto Ascalon worked with our Best Start for Kids (BSK) grant partners to deliver summer programs centered around tiny worlds, exploring the space in and around Yesler Terrace, with writing-based field trips around the Yesler Terrace area (medallions!), the International District (dragons!), and the Pioneer Square Habitat Beach (Salish Sea!), along with helping young folks create their own tiny world terrariums. He was accompanied by a team of eight teen mentors through our Yesler Education Team Initiative (YETI) program, a summer initiative developing teen mentors.
Summer 2024 Schedule
We’ll release our Summer 2024 schedule in late spring, 2024. Stay tuned!
